What The Granny Ride Is About
If your an adult and have had the misfortune of getting ill - then you know how difficult it is to get financial assistance from most government funded programs. The Granny ride was started in 2001 after the untimely death of Judy "Granny" Rubeck to Lung Cancer. While dealing with the fact that our loved one was terminally ill, we discovered first handed the hardship of an adult getting financial assistance from any where or anyone! Judy lost her life before she was approved for disability. Her husband made to much money to qualify for state assistance, and any health insurance she had - was "jacked up" in price so that she could not afford to keep it. Her husband nearly went bankrupt and still is struggling to recover from all the medical bills. We are a non-profit group who raises money to help adults that have cancer. We can not eliminate all the bills - but we do help! Our commitment is to help find a cure, and to help adults affected with cancer and their families. Each year we have surpassed our expectations in helping adults with cancer, and donating money to The American Cancer Society.
The Way We Raise Money
Money is raised through private donations, T-shirt revenue, as well as scheduled events.
This years Granny Ride is to be held August 23rd in Cloverdale Indiana on State Road 231. There will be an auction and breakfast starting at 8am to kick off our day. The American Red Cross is getting involved with us this year. They will be available from 8am - 12pm for persons wishing to donate blood. Blood donors will enjoy the benifit of a free breakfast and a Granny Ride book. Registration for the Motorcycle Ride begins at 9am.
